On Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, the U.S. Capitol Historical Society will launch its new speaker series, “Capitol Dialogues,” with Congressman James E. Clyburn as the series’ first ever guest. The event—which will coincide with Black History Month and America250 celebrations—will feature a conversation between the Society and Clyburn, who is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the NAACP’s highest honor, the Spingarn Medal. Clyburn will reflect on his youth in the Jim Crow South, his tireless work on behalf of civil rights, and the important history of African American representation in Congress.
The event will be held in-person in the Cannon House Office Building and live-streamed online. It is free and open to the public.
