CAPITOL STORIES: Taking you inside the Capitol

Every American, no matter where they live, should have access to the U.S. Capitol, what Thomas Jefferson called “the great commanding theater” of our nation. Through this interactive website, Americans can “visit” the Capitol and learn about many of its most important stories through different themes, events, and personalities that still shape the United States to this day.

Through the U.S. Capitol Historical Society's “Capitol Stories”:

  • Educators are provided resource materials for civics education and history curriculum in school;
  • Students are provided Capitol history content for independent school projects;
  • Parents are provided online resources to aid their children's history-based homework and projects; and
  • Citizens of all ages are provided vital background about the U.S. Capitol, the “people's house” and physical embodiment of our democracy.
