The Hall of Capitols II

The American Story in Art: The Murals of Allyn Cox in the U.S. Capitol

THE HALL OF CAPITOLS COMPLETED IN 1974, the murals in the eastern north-south corridor of the House wing tell the story of the U.S. Capitol. Grouped in four panels are paintings of the 16 buildings in which Congress and its predecessors have met since 1754. Four other panels contain eight historical scenes set in or around the halls of Congress. Also included are 12 portraits of persons associated with the Capitol and a number of inscriptions and allegorical scenes.
