Great Experiment Hall I

The American Story in Art: The Murals of Allyn Cox in the U.S. Capitol

Dedicated in 1982, the second series of Allyn Cox murals occupies the central east-west corridor of the House wing. Intersecting with the Hall of Capitols, this corridor is known as GREAT EXPERIMENT HALL. In 16 major paintings, it depicts the growth of the American experiment in democracy and free enterprise. Each scene is amplified by vignettes relating to the historical theme. The murals also feature several portraits of notable Americans and a number of inscriptions and allegorical paintings.
