Join the U.S. Capitol Historical Society on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, as historian Jill Watts discusses Mary McLeod Bethune’s life and important work during the administration of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. As a leader of the “Black Cabinet” — a group of prominent African Americans in and around government (and the subject of Dr. Watts’ latest book) — Dr. Bethune was instrumental in advancing the needs and interests of the Black community through the New Deal era and World War 2.

This webinar is the first in a series of programs commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. Bethune as Florida’s new statue of her joins the National Statuary Hall Collection in the U.S. Capitol later this year. Like all virtual USCHS programs, this event is free and open to the public; registration is required.
